A Bible study on Proverbs 31 for women

Her Works Praise Her

A 4-week Bible study on Proverbs 31 for women. Ten minutes a day.

Somebody read you Proverbs 31 once, and you came away feeling behind. Maybe it was a sermon, maybe a card at a bridal shower, maybe a friend who meant well. This study opens the chapter at verse 1, where a mother is teaching a king, and reads all the way to the end slowly. Four weeks, ten minutes a day, for the woman who has been measured against this chapter.

What this study is, and what it is not

This study will not turn you into the woman in the poem, and it will not try. It will not hand you a morning routine, a budget, or a chart. It will not tell you that a woman's worth is her output, because that is not what this chapter says. It will not read verses 16 through 18 as a promise that hard work brings you land and profit, because Proverbs is a book of wisdom, not a book of contracts.

It is also not marriage advice or parenting advice. There is nothing in it about roles, about who does what at home, or about fixing anybody. What it does is sit down beside you in the actual words of the chapter and show you what is really there.

What's inside

Each week has five study days, a memory verse day, and a reflection day. Every study day follows the same four moves: Read a passage, Notice what is actually in the text with three questions, Respond in the writing space, and Pray from a starting line you finish in your own words.

WeekWhere the week takes youMemory verse
1Who She Isn't. Who is speaking and who is listening. The chapter's first nine verses, what kind of book Proverbs is, the shape of the poem, and the one other woman in Scripture called by the same wordsProverbs 31:30
2Her Hands. Verses 13 through 19, the working verses. Wool and flax, the early morning, the field and the lamp, the spindle, and the day Jesus did not measure Martha by the mealProverbs 31:17
3Her Heart. Verses 20 through 27. Her arms open to the poor, the snow and the scarlet, the city gate and the market, the laugh at days she cannot see, and her teaching voiceProverbs 31:25
4Praise Her. Verses 28 through 31, where the poem finally gives someone a speaking part and it is not her. Then the whole poem again, read as praiseProverbs 31:31

The acrostic form tells you this is carefully crafted praise, not twenty-two direct commands. You have been handed it as a test. It was written as an honor.

A taste of Week 3

She Can Laugh

This is the verse on the mugs and the wall prints, and it is better than the version most people carry around...

“Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the days to come.”

Proverbs 31:25 (BSB)

She can laugh at the days to come. Not the days behind her. The ones she cannot see yet. And notice what the verse does not claim. It does not say she knows what is coming. It does not say the coming days will be good...

Who this is for

Every woman. Let's be specific, because this chapter has been used to shut doors.

If you are single, you are inside this study. If you are married, you are inside it. If your marriage is hard, you are inside it. If you are widowed, divorced, or raising kids alone, you are inside it. If you have no children, or lost a child, or are still waiting, you are inside it. If you work a job with a badge and a schedule, if you work at home, if you are sick and cannot work at all right now, you are inside it. The poem's own summary line, verse 30, does not mention a husband, a house, or a paycheck.

It is for you if you have a bruise from this chapter. You were told you were not her. You were told a good wife would have managed it better. That was a person using Scripture to weigh you. It was not the chapter doing it. You do not have to earn your way into this study. Come in tired.

If you miss a day, nothing breaks. Pick up where you left off. A missed day is not a failed study, and this is not one more thing to be behind on. It works on your own at the kitchen table, and it works with a group in a living room.

Leading a group?

The $44 leader kit was built so you can say yes to leading without a seminary shelf. You get the full-text edition (nobody has to bring a Bible or keep up), a leader guide that tells you exactly how to run each week, four discussion scripts with time cues, a flyer and two graphics to invite with, and a license to print everything for up to 12 women. The guide also has a page called "A note on tender ground" about the three meetings where a woman who is single, widowed, divorced or without children can feel written out, and how to keep your table from turning the poem back into a checklist. Read that page before your first meeting.

Fourteen days of writing the chapter out by hand, one verse a day, with a plain line under each verse about what it actually says. Free to print, no email wall.

Questions women ask

Do I need any Bible background?

No. Every day tells you exactly what to read, and the three questions only ever ask you to notice what is on the page in front of you. Nothing assumes you have done a study before.

How much time does it take each day?

About ten minutes. Five study days a week, a short memory verse day, and a reflection day that is mostly rest.

Is this study only for married women?

No. If you are single, you are inside this study. If you are widowed, divorced, or raising kids alone, you are inside it. If you have no children, or lost a child, or are still waiting, you are inside it. The chapter's own summary line, verse 30, does not mention a husband, a house, or a paycheck, and the study says so on the page where the husband verses come up.

Is this going to tell me to be the Proverbs 31 woman?

No, and it will not try. It hands you no morning routine, no budget, and no chart. Proverbs 31 is a poem. The last twenty-two verses are built line by line through the Hebrew alphabet, the way a song is built, and the study reads them as praise rather than as twenty-two orders.

Will it read verses 16 to 18 as a promise about money?

No. Proverbs is a book of wisdom, not a book of contracts, and week 1 day 2 sets that up from Proverbs 1:1-7. Every money verse in the study carries a line saying plainly what it does not promise.

That chapter has been used against me. Is this safe?

Week 1 exists for exactly that. It starts at verse 1, where a mother is teaching a king, and it shows you who is speaking and who they are speaking to before it goes anywhere near the list. The front matter says it in one sentence: that was a person using Scripture to weigh you, and it was not the chapter doing it.

What Bible translation does it use?

The Berean Standard Bible. Every quote is machine-checked word for word against the published text. Nothing is paraphrased and nothing is AI-written. You may know some of these lines with different words from a mug or a wall print, because different English Bibles word them differently, and the study says so.

Do I need to print it?

No. You get a print-friendly PDF (light on ink) and a color screen edition for phone or tablet. The writing space works in GoodNotes and similar apps.

What if I fall behind?

Nothing breaks. Pick up where you left off. A missed day is not a failed study.

Can I share it with my group?

The $13.99 and $23.99 editions are for your personal use. The $44 leader kit includes a license to print for up to 12 women.

Refunds?

If the study is not what you hoped, reply to your receipt email within 30 days and we will refund you. No forms, no argument.
